Insurance
On May
20, 2009, the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009 was signed
into law. This law includes a provision that extends the increase from
$100,000 to $250,000 in share
insurance coverage through December 31, 2013. This increase in
insurance, provided by the
National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), an arm of the
National Credit Union
Administration (NCUA), was originally enacted through the Emergency
Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, and was set to expire on December
31, 2009.
The NCUA
is an independent federal agency, with the backing
of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, that operates and
manages the
NCUSIF. They insure the deposits of nearly 90 million account holders
in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit
unions. We are one of these
state-chartered credit unions insured by the
NCUSIF.
You can rest assured that your funds are
safe and secure at GECU. Not one penny of insured savings has ever been lost by a member of
a federally insured credit union, such as GECU.
